El Coco is a generational project led by Luz Marina Moncada and her family in Ciudad Bolívar, Antioquia. Established in 1887, their 28,3 hectare farm includes 67.000 Colombia variety trees across 12,4 hectares. With support from their son Gabriel and his connection to Juan Saldarriaga of Tierra de Café, the family is now embracing specialty coffee, blending deep-rooted tradition with a renewed commitment to quality and innovation.
While Antioquia has long been associated with large scale, commercial grade coffee, a new generation of farmers is changing the narrative. Led by Juan Saldarriaga of Tierra de Café, a group of young producers, including Luz Marina Moncada's family, is exploring the region’s untapped potential for high quality, distinctive coffees. Through experimentation and collaboration, they are refining processing techniques and elevating cup profiles beyond the traditional chocolatey, heavy bodied norm. This collective effort is transforming Antioquia into a rising force in Colombia’s specialty coffee scene.
