COFFEE STORY

Coffee Explained.

About the Farm

Gaharo Hill is located in Burundi’s Gitega Province, at an elevation of 1,700–2,100 metres. Along its gentle, fertile slopes, 610 smallholder farmers grow coffee alongside maize, beans and other food crops. Each family tends an average of just 80 coffee trees, making production a truly collective effort. Long Miles Coffee supports the community through agronomy training, sustainable soil management and initiatives that promote women’s economic independence and participation.

About the Coffee

Gaharo Hill is produced exclusively from Red Bourbon Arabica, a variety closely associated with Burundi’s coffee-growing heritage. Harvesting takes place from late March to mid-July, with ripe cherries delivered to the nearby Bukeye Washing Station. There, they undergo natural processing, during which the cherries are dried whole with the seeds inside. This method enhances the coffee’s natural sweetness and expressive fruit character.

What to Expect

The experience opens with aromas of black tea and vanilla, followed by layers of tropical fruit, sweet citrus and delicate wine-like complexity. As the coffee cools, notes of ripe stone fruit, red berries and soft caramel continue to unfold, supported by a silky body and vibrant yet beautifully integrated acidity. The finish is long, clean and exceptionally sweet.

Whether enjoyed as espresso or filter, this coffee rewards slow appreciation. It is a coffee that reflects the dedication of the farmers, the precision of the Long Miles Coffee Project and the unique terroir of Gaharo Hill, an exceptional expression of Burundi's specialty coffee at its finest.
