Huehuetenango is one of Guatemala’s three non-volcanic regions, as well as its highest and driest under cultivation, making it one of the best for coffee production. Currents of hot air sweep up from the Plains of Tehuantepec, in Oaxaca, Mexico, and mix here with the cool air descending from the Cuchumatanes Mountains, creating a microclimate that’s protected from frost and allowing coffee to be cultivated at up to 2,000 meters.

Vides family is a well known coffee growing family in Guatemala. In 2001, Jorge Vides, along with his children and grandchildren, made the collective decision to transition the farm entirely to the cultivation of specialty coffee. The efforts bore fruit in 2002 when coffee from Vides58 secured the 2nd place in the prestigious Guatemalan Cup of Excellence. Vides58 also initiated a collaborative program with the Association Coffee Care, an organization committed to minimizing child labor instances by offering educational and recreational programs to children aged 2 to 14. Today, Vides58 remains a steadfastly family-owned enterprise. They oversee several farms, including Finca La Bolsa, Finca Terrazas, and Finca El Sarral. Granada is a blend of fine Caturra and Bourbon varieties, naturally processed, representing a very sweet Guatemalan coffee with heavy and creamy body.

Beyond coffee, Vides58’s impact extends to its community. The family established a school on the farm to provide education for the children of workers and local families, an initiative that continues to empower future generations.

After selective handpicking, cherry is delivered to the wet mill at Finca La Bolsa. Cherry is dry fermented in patios, raked frequently to ensure even drying. It takes a total of 20 days for beans to dry fully.

"Granada" presents a nuanced coffee profile characterized by pronounced fruity notes, like strawberry and caramel, and vibrant acidity that amplifies its flavor complexity. This coffee demonstrates remarkable versatility across brewing methods: delivering a refined sweetness in espresso while showcasing its full aromatic potential through filter preparation like V60.
